SEV 2024 – Balance awareness week

As part of the 2024 Balance and Dizziness Awareness Week, the Toulouse-based InVest team organized two public outreach events on the University of Toulouse campus. A ciné-debate centered around the film Gravity by Alfonso Cuarón was held in collaboration with ENT specialists (Dr. Alexandra Wreckel, Dr. Pauline Nieto), a vestibular physiotherapist (Quentin Legois), an orthoptist (Véronique Serin), and Yannis Benaniba, a vestibular patient and founder of ADeV (Association des Désordres Vestibulaires). The discussion focused on vestibular symptoms depicted in the film and their clinical relevance. On the following day, the InVest research team, led by Alexandra Séverac Cauquil and including Alba Langlade and Sarah Marchand, hosted an Open Lab Day at CerCo to introduce the general public to current research on the vestibular system and its clinical applications through demonstrations and hands-on activities.

JSPS Summer Program 2024

The JSPS Summer Program offers selected PhD students the opportunity to conduct collaborative research in Japan. From June to August 2024, Sarah Marchand joined the laboratory of Prof. Tsurugizawa Tomokazu at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Tsukuba. This stay allowed her to strengthen international collaborations and develop a novel project on optic flow perception using fMRI in non-human primates.

ECVP 2024 – European Conference on Visual Perception

The ECVP is a prominent international conference dedicated to all aspects of visual perception. In 2024, it was held in Aberdeen, Scotland, from August 25 to 29. Alexandra Séverac Cauquil and Alba Langlade presented their latest findings on oculometry and galvanic vestibular stimulation (GVS), highlighting the InVest team’s research on visual motion and self-motion perception.

GDR Vertige Summer School 2024 – VERTINNOVATION

Organized by the GDR Vertige, this interdisciplinary summer school focuses on vestibular functions, balance, and vertigo. It took place in Marseille from July 1 to 5, 2024, and brought together young researchers and experts in the field. Alba Langlade attended the event to deepen her understanding of vestibular physiology and its links with multisensory integration—key aspects of the InVest team’s research.

CIP 2024 – 10th Iberian Conference on Perception

The CIP Congress is an international meeting focused on perception, bringing together specialists in vision and perceptual processes. The 2024 edition was held from June 26 to 28 at La Cristalera, near Madrid, in the Sierra. Alba Langlade attended the congress to present fNIRS results on visuo-vestibular integration conducted as part of the InVest project.

IMRF 2024 – International Multisensory Research Forum

IMRF is the leading international conference dedicated to multisensory research. In 2024, it took place in Reno, Nevada, from June 17 to 20. Sarah Marchand, Alexandra Séverac Cauquil, and Jean-Baptiste Durand participated in this key event. Sarah gave a talk and presented a poster on the multisensory integration of optic flow stimuli, while Alexandra co-organized a symposium on the topic, showcasing the team’s central contributions to the field.

NIRx fNIRS Workshop 2024

Held in Berlin from April 15 to 17, 2024, the annual NIRx workshop focuses on recent advancements and applications of functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) in neuroscience. The workshop offers lectures, practical sessions, and networking opportunities. Alba Langlade attended this training event to enhance her technical expertise in non-invasive neuroimaging methods, particularly fNIRS systems used for studying sensorimotor integration.

InVest Team Meeting in Toulouse

In April 2024, the InVest team met with its academic partners in Caen for a project meeting. This gathering provided a valuable opportunity to discuss ongoing progress, share expertise, and align future research directions. The exchanges were highly stimulating and played a key role in advancing the project, strengthening collaboration between the two teams involved.

MT180 Regional Final 2024 – “Ma Thèse en 180 secondes”

“Ma Thèse en 180 secondes” is a French-speaking competition that challenges PhD students to present their research in just 3 minutes using simple and engaging language. In March 2024, the regional final took place in Toulouse. Sarah Marchand represented the InVest team with a compelling presentation of her PhD research on self-motion perception, earning a spot among the finalists and contributing to the public outreach of our scientific work.
