In-Vest at VIMS2026, Amsterdam

Alexandra Séverac and Claire Poullias attended to the the 9th Symposium on Visually Induced Motion Sensations, March 25-27, 2026 at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Claire pitched and presented a poster about “Direction-Selective Processing of Optic Flow in Humans and Rhesus Macaques”.

SEV 2025 – Balance awareness week

For the third time, In-Vest team organised the Vertigo and Balance day at the University of Toulouse.

During the whole day, students and staff participated to the balance tests and quizz, to the snapshot contest with Fiona the flamingo, the mascot of the SEV.

In the evening after shivering for 2 hours on the cable stretched between the 2 twin towers with the picure The Walk (2015), we seem to have achieved the perfect balance, or imbalance (!) in the exchanges with the attendance between fundamental research, clinical, investment of patients, and rehabilitation, plus this year the side step (risky when moving on a wire): the lighting of a champion of balance: Thomas the circus artist whose experience fueled the discussion.

This was supported by the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the Pole Culture of the Communication department of the university of Toulouse: a great collective happening for the cause of vertigo

See you next year!

In-Vest at GDR Vision – Rennes 2026

On January 29-30th, 2026, we attended to the annual forum of GDR Vision that gathers the French Vision Science community, in Rennes. Alba presented a poster about results from the oculomotor study of her thesis, describing vertical eye movements induced by antero-posterior GVS.

MNS 2025 – Mediterranean Neuroscience Society

The 2025 edition of the Mediterranean Neuroscience Society conference took place in Chania, Crete (Greece) from June 7 to 11. Sarah Marchand, Alba Langlade, and Alexandra Séverac Cauquil attended and presented the latest work of the InVest team on self-motion perception and multisensory integration, continuing our collaboration with neuroscience researchers around the Mediterranean.

NeuroFrance 2025 – Montpellier

Alba Langlade presented her research at NeuroFrance 2025, which took place from May 14 to 16 at the Corum in Montpellier. The work she presented focuses on eye movements evoked by galvanic vestibular stimulation (GVS).

Collaborative Review Publication

A review article co-first authored by Sarah Marchand, Alba Langlade, and Quentin Legois, and supervised by Alexandra Séverac Cauquil, has been published!

The paper provides a comprehensive overview of Galvanic Vestibular Stimulation (GVS), a technique for investigating vestibular function. It summarizes the history, neurophysiological mechanisms, and recent advances in GVS, highlighting its effects on postural control, ocular responses, cortical activity, and self-motion perception. The review also explores the diagnostic and therapeutic applications of GVS in balance disorders, stroke rehabilitation, and neurodegenerative diseases. This publication serves as both a theoretical foundation for future research and a key contribution to the field, emphasizing the InVest team’s conceptual impact on the understanding of GVS in basic and clinical neuroscience.

Early Career Speaker Series – University of Nevada

The Early Career Speaker Series is organized by the University of Nevada to highlight promising young scientists in neuroscience. Sarah Marchand was invited to give a talk about her ongoing research on multisensory processing of self-motion cues. This invitation reflects the growing recognition of her work within the international neuroscience community and her active role in promoting the InVest team’s research abroad.

SfN 2024 – Society for Neuroscience Annual Meeting

SfN is the largest neuroscience conference in the world, bringing together tens of thousands of researchers each year. The 2024 edition took place in Chicago, USA, from October 5 to 9. Sarah Marchand presented her latest research on the cortical networks involved in the perception of self-motion through natural and artificial optic flow, further showcasing the international impact of the InVest team.

GDR Biosimia Congress 2024

The 8th BioSimia Conference took place on September 30 and October 1, 2024, at the Maison de la Recherche, University of Toulouse (UT2J). This biennial event, organized by the CNRS network BioSimia, brings together researchers from various disciplines to discuss the use of nonhuman primates in biomedical research. The 2024 edition focused on topics such as enrichment protocols, interindividual variability, animal screening, and physiological and telemetry recordings. Sarah Marchand and Jean-Baptiste Durand, members of the InVest team, co-organized this conference. They contributed to the scientific program and facilitated discussions on the integration of multisensory stimulation techniques in nonhuman primate models. Their involvement underscored the InVest team’s commitment to advancing ethical and innovative research methodologies.
