MNS 2023 – Mediterranean Neuroscience Society

The Mediterranean Neuroscience Society meeting is a biennial conference that fosters collaboration between neuroscientists from countries around the Mediterranean basin. The 2023 edition was held in Carthage, Tunisia, from October 14 to 18. Alexandra Séverac Cauquil and Alba Langlade represented the InVest team and presented a poster on visuo-vestibular integration during scientific sessions dedicated to multisensory integration and motor control.

VertInnovation Summer School

The VertInnovation summer school, organised by the GDR Vertige, is an intensive week-long course focusing on research into otoneurology and vestibular disorders. It offers theoretical courses given by international experts and practical workshops in small groups, and takes place every year in July on the St Charles campus of the University of Aix-Marseille. Sixteen participants are selected on the basis of an application and receive a certificate of attendance at the end of the summer school. This year, two members of the Activest team will be present at the VertInnovation summer school.

NeuroFrance 2023

The NeuroFrance conference is a major event in the field of neuroscience in France, bringing together researchers, clinicians and students interested in advances in research on the brain and nervous system. It is a platform for presenting and discussing the latest discoveries and innovations in the field. In 2023, NeuroFrance was held in Lyon and the InVest team had the opportunity to present a poster on the characteristics that induce strong activation of the V6 region in the context of multisensory perception of self-motion.

Workshop – The vestibular system and mental health

On January 11 and 12, 2023 took place the workshop “the vestibular system and mental health”, 1st workshop of the thematic team “cortex and cognition” of GDR Vertige.

On this occasion, Alexandra Séverac Cauquil, coordinator of the project, gave an oral presentation entitled: “Why and how to describe and study the aging of vestibular perception?”

GDR Biosimia 2022 Congress

On November 23 and 24, 2022 took place in Bordeaux, the annual congress of GDR Biosimia !

Created in 2016 by the CNRS, the GDR Biosimia has enabled collaborative exchanges of public research laboratories (CNRS, Inserm, CEA, MNHM, universities). It federates researchers from laboratories in different scientific fields that use primates other than humans.

Its work is oriented towards many themes:
– Infectiology, the study of infectious diseases AIDS, Ebola, Covid-19, etc. and their treatments,
– Immunology, the study of the immune system and its diseases,
– Neuroscience, the study of the brain and its diseases.

This congress was an opportunity for several members of the InVest project working on the rhesus macaque model, to follow the latest discoveries in primatology research, but also to have exciting discussions on primatology policy in France.

The members of the InVest project present at this event have volunteered to organize a next edition of the GDR Biosimia in Toulouse in 2024 ! To be continued…

    GDR Vertige Congress

On September 23 and 24, the annual congress of the GDR Vertige took place. The symposium gathered 150 participants from the different professional components of the ONV community. It was an opportunity for several members of the InVest project to meet and for Alexandra Séverac Cauquil, coordinator of the project, to give an oral presentation entitled “Visuo-vestibular neurophysiology and vision induced motion sickness”.

The 2022 edition of the GDR Vertige Symposium was dedicated to the theme of motion sickness. For several decades, the rehabilitation of vestibular functions has been based on the discoveries of fundamental and clinical research on the mechanisms that promote vestibular compensation. These mechanisms include both actions to promote sensory and behavioral substitutions, pharmacological management, and psychological management of patients.

    XXXI Bárány Society Meeting

Alexandra Séverac Cauquil and Sarah Marchand had the opportunity to take part in the 31st Bárány Society Meeting from May 9 to 11, 2022 in Madrid. This congress has seen multiple quality speakers present the latest outcomes in basic and clinical vestibular research.

This was the occasion for the team to present the precursory work of the InVest project through two posters entitled: “Contemplating V6 as the cortical cornerstone for the perception of forward self-motion: an fMRI study” and “Self-motion perception induced by galvanic vestibular stimulation according to gravity: a fNIRS study”.
